Chandigarh University (CU) is a private university located in Gharuan village of Mohali, India. The university was established on 10 July 2012 by an act of Punjab State Legislature. It is recognized by University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) with the right to confer degrees as per Section 22(1) of the UGC Act, 1956.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has ranked Chandigarh University 32nd in the overall rankings, 20th in the universities rankings, 32nd in the engineering category, 36th in the management category, 20th in the pharmacy category and 13th in the architecture category as per the rankings released in 2024.
A 2025 bibliometrics paper from the American University of Beirut listed Chandigarh University in a case study of schools using "questionable authorship practices" to manipulate research output metrics and rankings.[The article noted the university had a 530% increase in publications between 2019 and 2023,[12][13] well above India's national average of 36%. Other indications of compromised academic integrity alleged in the study included a considerable drop in the university's first-authorship rate, a 45 percentage point rise in international collaborations, and significant contributions from hyper-prolific faculty with multiple affiliations.
